I’ve had this window sitting here for hours, with an inkling of an idea to express but no idea as to how to express it – very much like a splinter in my mind
I’m hating myself for taking the Big Job @ IEEE right now, because I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. I’m not confident about my progress at work, so am somewhat afraid of what might come Tuesday when the boss gets back. I think I’m jeopardizing the project with Rudie with my inaction. In short, I’m having a pretty crappy summer.
It’s not that I’m not getting support – family and friends are encouraging, and good things have happened / continue to happen / will happen, but I’m just having a somewhat negative time overall. I’m actually looking forward to the start of term so that some of these responsibilities that I no longer want can go away.
Some might look at that last statement and think, “Grow up, buddy – real life is like that”. I know real life is like that – I’m just not ready for that yet.
Oh, well… long weekend coming up, so some time to decompress, do something fun, see the grandparents up in Sudbury, and generally have a better-than-sucky time (I hope). Oh, and a very much missed friend is coming this way in ~3 weeks for a 2 week visit, which will definitely rock. Best of all, 2 major annoyances will be over by then, and one will be winding down, so I’ll be mellowed out (maaaaannn…)
Back to the grind, I guess…

That’s about the only way to describe my mental state today: dain bramaged. Part of it, I think, is that I haven’t really done anything really fun / interesting in a couple of weeks now, and part of it is that I’ve got a sh*tload of stuff to do, and none of it seems to be getting any closer to completion. (Only getting 4 hours of sleep a night for 3 nights running is probably a stupid idea, too)
What I need is a vacation… which, as a contract summer student in desperate need of cash to pay for tuition, I don’t get. Sure, I get a bit of time this weekend, but it has a distinct ring of “not enough”
I’d better get a hell of a lot done before Tuesday – boss comes back, and I’m not sure that I have enough progress to satisfy him.
Dammit, why hasn’t school started yet?!?!?!? I like that environment a hell of a lot more than this one.

Stealing deferred exams? That’s just low – especially since now they have to write them again.
Though it’s somehow funny – and it’ll be even funnier when the students involved catch the prick.

This just in: running
dd if=/dev/hda bs=64k | gzip > /mnt/edrive/latdmp
where /dev/hda is 3 gig, /mnt/edrive is an SMB share on a WinXP box, the 100 megabit full-duplex card is only going at 10 megabit half-duplex, and, oh yeah, the machine’s a P233 so gzip is dead slow…
…takes forever. Maybe a bigger block size would’ve been a better idea. Then again, a shotgun shell placed directly under the hard drive might’ve been more productive, too.

Browsing for info for work today, and came across this ad for a DevX site:

They’re just making it too easy – they’re taking the fun out of being a (part-time) spelling nut!

I just got an email here, talking about the promotion of someone with the same name as a guy I went to high school with, and haven’t talked to in about a year.
Which is weird, because I’d have never pegged him as a guy to work in an Insurance company.
(for those of you wondering who he is, just think “Patterson” and “Arch Nemesis”)

“TIMMAH!!!!”
-A good dozen or so 2nd year ECE students, in semi-unison, just before any EE2CJ4 evaluation
So I ask for the FactoryDirect.ca newsletter to be delivered to my McMaster Email account. So I go there, and I get told that I’m at over 90% of quota, and mail stops at 100%
So I download the 1.6 meg PDF (6 meg quota, MUSS reporting PDF as 2.2 meg), and try to delete the message.
Which it won’t let me do, because in order to delete, it copies to trash first, I guess, because it’s telling me that I have INSUFFICIENT QUOTA TO DELETE.
CommunigatePro sucks major ass. I’ll be so glad to have something running something saner when stealthbanana.com is all nice and running and stuff.
In other news, watched the last 3 episodes of Animatrix last night, and while I understood what was happening… they left me in a rather confused state as to What This Had To Do With Anything™ By contrast, both Mario Kart 64 and Simpsons Road Rage made substantially more sense (though Suzan’s driving didn’t :p )
Yarr… Friday it be. Lunch @ Firkin w/ team, sleep (ha! coding more likely), and a Day with Rudie – Supremetronic, Active Surplus, and maybe Factorydirect.ca (24 alkaline AAAs for $8!!!). And then back to Rudie’s to work on the Damnable Site.

So… case mod nears completion. Pics, anyone?

The front of the case. Note that kick-ass reflection of the little monitor.

One (flash-illuminated) Cold Cathode Fluorescent

Oooooohhh. Just wait until I actually get the window (back) in there.

Newly-painted bezel, drives, and highly-reflective surfaces. Note the mirror-like reflection of the USB cable.
So now alls I need to do is build the LCD bracket, paint it blue, solder another 30 LEDs for the VU meter, build the circuit, connect it, fit the window, and she be done. Only nearly 2 years into the project.
Damn, I suck.

-Me, talking to Ty last night
(No, I didn’t melt the inverter… yet
)
stealthbanana.com is registered… and not pointing to the right servers, despite me specifying which servers to point to when I registered it. So it’s gonna be Saturday before anything gets up on that site… assumuing that Dotster’s admin system comes back online some time today.
I thought that buying a domain name would be a rather “liberating” experience, or even “not a pain in the ass”. I hate being wrong.
