Trapped

“Have you seen this boy?”

-Motorcycle cop (Robert Patrick)

“AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!”

-Wayne Campbell

Hungry is me, but leave I cannot, for being an idiot I do not have El Swipecard today. So the 8th floor is by cage until such time as I leave – which, though earlier today than most days, isn’t soon enough. Le sigh.

Saw T3 and the first half of Animatrix with Suzan on saturday, both of which provided a more-than-sufficient level of enjoyment. Tried watching second half of Animatrix at her place last night, but the DVD player thought it was an Audio CD. Silly DVD player – MPEGs are for VCDs!

So current plan is to try and finish it tomorrow night, which is A-OK by me. Still gotta finish IEEE and LTD crap, both of which have to be definitely done… ASAP.

Oh, and the effing registrar STILL hasn’t gotten back to me about the domain name, so it’s another service for me now. Probably Dotster, assuming they check out, reputation-wise. Mark my words, stealthbanana.com WILL be up by the end of the month. Or at least, under construction.

Family is attempting to go to California for a week in August, and I won’t be joining, as I’d have to miss a week of work, and they wouldn’t want me back for a single week after that. So I stay here – with the house to myself, and possibly Alberta-residing friends in town. There are definite advantages, yes.

Now, back to the grind…

It costs HOW MUCH?

Seeing as how many / several / some people I know seem to be using LiveJournal, I investigated what it takes to get an account there. Turns out, you either need:

  • A code, or
  • $25USD/year

That just isn’t worth it. I’ll stick to getting StealthBanana.com and OoberCMS working instead.

Speaking of SB, it seems that after nearly 2 weeks, the domain name registrar still hasn’t done the registrarial thing, as the people at Guelph would call it. Probably gonna wind up cancelling that order and registering elsewhere unless they get their act together ASAP.

And just because everyone else is talking about this… this ain’t exactly taking the high road. Remember, kids: just because it’s legal, and just because it highlights a wrong… doesn’t necessarily make it right.

EDIT: Mark’s taken it somewhat private – but a quick Google search for Winer Watcher will give you an inkling if what’s going on.

This just in:

“WE’RE NOT WORTHY! WE’RE NOT WORTHY!”

-Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar

It’s official – Everything2 is possibly the greatest, most enlightening time waster on the planet.

God, how I love that site.

IBM

“If you’re gonna spew, spew in this”

-Garth Algar

Reason to love IBM: If you go Here, you can get hardware maintenance manuals on basically every ThinkPad, free. Also, you can order spare parts from a multitude of sources online, even if you’re not a registered service-type place.

Reason to hate IBM: The fact that I have to replace the screen hinge and the keyboard bezel in the first place. Between the hinge, the bezel which I kind-of-need-but-it’s-not-crucial, and the screw kit (because the nylon-coated screws are only supposed to be used once), I’m looking at $105 in parts.

US dollars.

Anyone have a connection to get me these things a bit cheaper? :) I need:
08K6560 Screw Kit
08K6546 Hinge-Bracket Assembly for ADT -or-
04P3691 Hinge-Bracket Assembly for LG (I’m not sure yet what LCD I have)
26P9275 Keyboard Bezel Assembly

I mean, dammit! Metal hinges aren’t supposed to crack! (pics to follow)

HEELLLLPPP!!

“Help me if you can, I’m feeling dow-ow-n… And I do appreciate you’re being ‘rou-ou-nd…”

-The Beatles (“Help”)

Please, oh god, someone rescue me from this place of evil. I’m facing possibly multiple damned-near impossible tasks, PLUS the spare time ones (IEEE and LTD), a Projects list that I’m getting nowhere on… and I’m not doing anything for fun.

Please, PLEASE someone do SOMETHING with me this weekend – at this point I don’t care what, I just need to get out of the house and do something. Then I can return to the little niche of hell I’ve carved out for myself.
