Live from DemoCamp7

Bringing my notes from DemoCamp7 live to you via the intarweb.

18:32: Joey has announced we’re running a little late. This may be a bit too much detail.
18:50: Still no start, but Joey has donned the accordion. Methinks no good can come from this.
19:02: Mr. Johnson has finally arrived
19:07: We have begun
19:16: Domainer goes up. Can barely hear them.
19:24: Couldn’t hear much of the intro, but the demo spoke for itself. They’ve built a REALLY COOL site editor – drag and drop, the works – in a browser. It’s all component-based. It’s… beautiful.
19:30: Domainer ends. Can’t hear most of the questions, mostly due to HVAC.
19:32: Feelingbullish.com is up. Joey: “Nonexistentially-speaking, why are you here?”
19:34: Trying to develop custom community for stock traders, as opposed to traditional forums-only systems. Ratings, blogs, forums.
19:36: Analysts have reputations based on past performance. Wisdom secton aggregates everyone’s opinion. VERY cool.
19:41: Analyst pages keep track of history – can’t change your ratings, blog posts etc. to make yourself look better. Good idea.
19:43: Their badges for analysts to use indicate reputation or current positions.
19:44: Not trying to replace Yahoo Finance, etc., just trying to provide a better tool than forums.
19:46: FeelingBullish down.
19:48: Plea for money.
19:49: Paruba up. I can hear them!
19:53: Seems to be a social networking site for wishlists? “Flickr and del.icio.us for E-Commerce” Johnson says +10 points for bookmarklets. Get your own blog, dude.
19:55: Nice use of AJAX.
19:57: “Oh, we’ll just do this in our spare time. Bullshit.” Priceless, and true.
19:59: “If you want to get it built, you need to feel the pain”
20:01: Indicates they don’t want adult items, but will deal with it when the time comes. Joey looks… disappointed.
20:05: Paruba down. Didn’t catch the last questions.
20:09: Joey is wearing the star-spangled banner.
20:11: Randy refreshes his drink.
20:13: Randy fails to refresh his drink before the demo
20:14: Glove up.
20:15: Tool for maipulating 3D sitemap.
20:17: WOW
20:22: Ingredients for your own glove: 1 iSight, 1 bunch of image processing software, 1 rollerblade wristguard with image target, the guts of 1 wireless keyboard for command buttons
20:27: Glove down
20:28: “My name is Damian Conway. I am Australian. I’m here to show you what you’ll be using when you get sick of Ruby.” Perl 6 is up.
20:29: “Just to start a language war…” and launches ViM. WTG!
20:31: He’s doing his presentation in ViM. Wow. “Pugs is -Ofun”.
20:40: “Those of you who like Perl will be pleased to know that you can still write obfuscated crap.”
20:43: Perl demo ends. Perl rocks.

UPDATE: This entry will serve as the basis for a decidedly more coherent summary of the event as soon as I stop feeling as though teeth were pulled from my head. Stay tuned.
